We have been struggling a bit with purchasing train tickets on the Trainline App. For what should have been straightforward tickets from Malaga to Cádiz we were issued tickets having us get off a stop before our transfer station, Santa Justa. In Pete’s telling, I threw him off the train in San Bernardino (our ticketed stop) with all our bags, then didn’t make it off before the doors closed. Hmmm, a little panicked I sat back down to see where I ended up. Unfortunately the train’s electronic sign showing the stops had been stuck on the prior stop all way to Santa Justa, which is where we needed to be for our next train to Cádiz. I got off and texted Pete that I would wait for him to taxi to meet me. Needless to say he wasn’t in the best of moods when he arrived, as he had wanted to stay on the train to see if we ended up at the Santa Justa station. Oops!! Lesson learned, I hope. Pete did some digging online and found we could buy a Gold card for seniors that would get us 25-40% off train tickets, so yesterday we took our passports and headed to the train station to ask about purchasing the Gold Cards (11€) and getting tickets for the rest of our trip. We have finally settled on which cities to visit and how long we should stay. This trip is partly to celebrate Pete’s 70th birthday, so the choice was his. We have tickets, to Cordoba, Valencia, and San Sebastián. We will have to purchase our tickets to Leon and Madrid in San Sebastián. After our little trip to Granada and Malaga we have decided the three nights in any one place is not enough time. We don’t like moving frequently, so will be staying an extra night or two in most cities.
So happy to be back in our little apartment. I think at some point I promised photos of our temporary home. We are at Plaza Mina Suites. This is a wonderful place with a kind staff, every other day housekeeping, free washers and dryers, and a super location.
The staff set up the TV so that we can get Netflix and Prime. We have been watching ‘Young Sherlock’ on Prime. It was partly filmed here in Cadiz last year while we were in residence.
Temperature got up to 67 degrees the other day so we did a big walk around the seaside promenade. The fishermen were out, as were a few hardy sunbathers and swimmers.
Unexpected downpour today, Pete was out and got drenched. We are heading to a museum for an overview of Cádiz history and architecture, with the added plus of being indoors. I’ll fill you in on what we find there.
