Not the Adventure we were expecting…

March 3, 2026

We were up in the dark, after a very short night filled with anticipation. We are training and busing to Granada from Cádiz.

Our train was scheduled to leave the Cádiz station at 8:40 am. We walked from Plaza Mina, about a 30 minute jaunt with construction detours. No problem catching our train to our first transfer at Dos Hermanas. We caught our next train to Antequera aannd… missed our stop trying to wrestle our bags to the door. Well rats, we got off at the next tiny town Bobadilla, where the very nice lady at the train station called a cab to take us to the bus station in Antequera. There was some kind of mix up because we were driven to the train station and had to take another cab 20 km to the bus station, we definitely weren’t walking that far. We made it well before our bus was scheduled to leave.

Antequera

This is a beautiful part of Spain with Flamingos, massive olive groves, hills, mountains and lots of trees. We also passed a couple of large solar farms. Unfortunately the train windows were too reflective and scratched up to take photos.

The bus was a different story, we took little winding, two lane roads up into the hills, through small villages on our way to Granada. So, charming and green this time of year. OK, charming covered the first 3 little villages. We stopped at every bus stop. Our driver was amazing navigating the narrow streets in a full size tour bus.

One of the villages, the name eludes me, there were so many
One of the many olive groves we passed

As you can see we had an overcast day.

We finally arrived in Granada at 6:30 pm and grabbed a taxi to our hotel. I had made a 7 pm reservation at a great restaurant, which we totally deserved after our muy difícil day. So many tourists, which we aren’t use to in Cádiz. I’m sure they are there, but we really don’t see that many.

Our hotel is on the street that leads up to the Alhambra, I purchased tickets for the 8th. Tomorrow we will do a walk around the city.

I’ll be back tomorrow….
