Spent the morning cooking lentil soup, while Pete ventured out for mosquito repellent plug-ins.
We have our Airbnb hostess coming to try to find the hairdryer, we have looked high and low. Also she is bringing more mosquito repellent plug-ins. We decided to vacate and do a little exploring.
We decided to check out the Central Market and gawk along the way.
We arrived during the shut down at 3:30 pm, but some prepared food stalls were still open.
The Central Market is one of the oldest covered markets in Spain, serving the people of Cádiz for 186 years. There have been renovations and additions, but the original outer walls and 4 gates (above photo) still remain.
From here we decided to walk to the The Genovés Park botanical garden, as Pete had shown me some intriguing photos online.
The garden runs along the northwest side of the island, just inside the waterfront promenade. It was originated in the 19th century and features over 150 different species of trees, palms and shrubs.
There is a grotto along one side of the duck pond.
Sitting with our beer we noticed parrots were flying everywhere carrying pieces of grass and twigs back to one huge dense tree. They are very speedy and hard to photograph. They must be building nests. They were up in the densest part of the tree, probably trying to make it difficult for the seagulls to get to their eggs.
We will definitely be back, our favorite place in Cádiz so far and much more to explore. Also a great place to hang out on the many park benches, with great people and bird watching.
It’s starting to cool down, so we are heading home for soup and some Netflix. We’ve finally turned the TV on and found we can log in to our streaming accounts.
